Frequently Asked Questions

The NewGene Antigen Sputum Lateral Flow Test Kit and NewGene Antibody Detection Kit is a combination test kits bundle. Now that vaccines across the UK are well underway with tens of millions of people being vaccinated, it makes sense and is more thorough to obtain both the antigen and antibody test kits, of which can be ordered separately/individually.

USING THE SPUTUM KIT

Wash and dry hands throughly.

Step 1

Have the patient take a deep breath, and expectorate deep cough sputum into the paper cup or a sputum container.
Note: If the patient has eaten or drunk just before sample collection, rinse the mouth with clean water.

Step 2

Use the sputum dropper to transfer 0.6 mL of the sputum sample into sample extraction tube. The dropper draws up 0.3 mL sample at a time. Perform the sample transfer procedure twice.

Step 3

Peel off the aluminium foil seal from a sample extraction tube.

Step 4

Transfer 0.6 mL sputum sample into sample extraction tube. Note: Sputum is highly viscous. Please strictly follow the instructions described above. Adding excessive or insufficient sputum sample may cause inaccurate results.

Step 5

Squeeze the dropper 5 times to mix the sputum sample with sample extraction solution.

Step 6

Insert the tube cap firmly on the sample extraction tube. Put the tube still for 1 minute to release viral antigens.

TESTING PROCEDURE

Note: Restore the test devices and specimens to room temperature (15-30°C or 59-86°F) prior to testing.

Step 1

Flick the bottom of the tube to mix sample solution.

Step 2

Take out a test card from an aluminium foil pouch. Place the test card on a table. Hold the tube upside down vertically. Squeeze the tube to expel 3 drops of the sample solution into the loading well on a test card.

Step 3

You can usually read the result at 3 to 15 minutes. However, you can read it from 15 to 30 minutes. The result is considered inaccurate and invalid after 30 minutes. Note: DO NOT reload sample solution to the loading well of a used test card.

READING THE RESULTS

Please ensure hands are clean.

The Readings

Positive(+): Red bands appear at both of T and C line in 15 to 30 minutes.

Negative(-): A red band appears at C line while no red band appears at T line in 15 to 30 minutes after sample loading.

Invalid: As long as no red band appears at C line, it indicates that the test result is invalid, and should retest the sample with another test card.

Using the IgG/IgM Antibody Test Kit

Wash and dry hands throughly.

Step 1

Take out a test card and a blood dropper from an aluminium foil pouch.

Step 2

Disinfect the patient’s finger tip with a piece of 70% alcohol wipe.

Step 3

Open the blood sampling needle. Press the needle firmly on the finger tip until you hear a click sound. Discard the needle properly.

Step 4

Hold the dropper vertically, transfer 1 drop of sample (about 10-20 μL) into the antibody loading well on the test card.

Step 5

Twist to open the buffer bulb. Add 2 drops of buffer (about 70 μL) into the antibody loading well immediately.

Step 6

Read the result in 15 minutes. The result is considered inaccurate and invalid after 20 minutes.
Note: DO NOT reload sample or buffer to the loading well of a used test card.

READING THE RESULTS

Please ensure hands are clean.

The Readings

Positive(+): Red bands appear in the control area (C) and test area (M or G), corresponding to positive test items. If a red band appears at: G line, IgG antibody positive; M line, IgM antibody positive.

Negative(-): C line appears while no test line appears (M or G) in 15 minutes after sample loading.

Invalid: As long as the C line does not appear, it indicates that the test result is invalid, and should retest with another test card.

The Rapid Antigen Sputum Test Kit

The NewGene Rapid Antigen Sputum Test Kit is for those people who wish to test whether they have contracted the COVID-19 virus.

The Rapid Antibody (IgG/IgM) Detection Test Kit

This product is intended for the qualitative detection of COVID-19 antibodies (IgM and IgG). It provides an aid in the diagnosis of infection with novel coronavirus. The kit is stable within the expiration date printed on the labelling.

Once an aluminium foil pouch is opened, the test card inside should be used within one hour.
